Today the Newton family experienced our first Illini Women's Basketball game. These are not the best pictures, but I thought we needed to commemorate the event with a blog post! One of the reasons we were excited about living in Champaign was that we get the feel of a smaller community with the resources of a big city since we've got the University of Illinois just down the street. Most of the sporting events are free admission (except for football and basketball), which makes it affordable entertainment for families.
The girls were into the game for the first ten minutes or so, then they got kind of bored. But there were lots of fun things going on, like the pep band playing and the cheerleaders doing routines. And we ran into a few people we know, which we are still getting used to (that rarely happened in Denver). We only stayed for the first half, but it was a fun way to spend a Sunday afternoon.
Joel and I get to go back in March for a men's basketball game when they play Indiana (thanks to the ladies on Joel's Family Ministry team at church who bought him tickets for Christmas). Although I don't think Joel will be wearing blue and orange next time!
