Anna decided she wanted to join Girl Scouts this year, so we got her signed up for the Brownie Troop at her school back in the fall. It has been a fun experience for her, and they have done all kinds of fun things. Recently the leaders have encouraged each girl to lead a meeting with one of their parents helping them. Anna saw a few girls do it and decided she wanted to try.
The leaders said we could do whatever we want for our meeting, and we tossed around several different ideas. Eventually we decided to help the troop earn a badge, so we did a lesson on Animal Habitats. We talked about what is a habitat, then chose four habitats and researched an animal that lives in each habitat. We also did a craft and played a game.
Anna did such a good job leading the meeting. But she got really frustrated when the girls started talking and stopped listening well. We learned that it is very hard to keep the attention of a group of 20 first and second grade girls! It gave me a taste of what teachers must deal with every day in their classrooms.
