Spring Break Highlights

Last week was Spring Break for us. We didn't go anywhere this year, but we had a really fun week at home. We tried to do something fun every day, like meeting friends for playdates or meeting my sister for lunch. One of the highlights was a visit to the Downtown Aquarium. We had been there once before a few years ago, but this time we got to do something special. We went behind the scenes with the river otters!

One of the zookeepers took us behind the exhibits and showed us how they feed the animals and keep the water clean. Then we got to watch them feed and train the otters. She told us a lot about otters and we got to learn funny things about the personalities of the three they have there. Then we got to actually help train them. We put a finger up to the glass and the otter had to put his nose to our finger in order to get another fish.

The otter we trained was Emmet and it just happened to be his birthday that day too. So the zookeepers told us all about the "cake" they made for him. It was actually a block of ice with cheerios frozen inside of it.
We got to stand in the front of the tank and watch Emmet enjoy his birthday cake (it's the green thing you can see in the background).
The highlight of my Spring Break was that I got to go to Chicago for a weekend and spend time with my college friends! It was so nice to get away and spend time with them. Just what I needed.
